One of the most obvious things about the Windmill main hall is that it’s a big space where you can do stuff. We have lots of regular groups from badminton to dog training to Senshi martial arts using the space and it also gets hired a lot for private functions – particularly kids’ parties. Then there are our big annual village events that pack the place out such as Deddington Town football presentation day, the Primary School production and, of course, the panto. However, with a few notable exceptions, what the Windmill has not been used for much in recent years – possibly as a hangover from Covid – are those large-scale fundraising events that I remember being quite common when I first moved into the village. Well, maybe all that is about to change – I am delighted to announce that the Windmill will be hosting not one, but three big fundraising events in the next few weeks. Please support them if you can!
Saturday 14 September 10am–1pm: Deddington Autumn Artisan Fayre. Established by local artist Jo Cross, these quarterly fayres are a showcase for lots of local artisans with creations from handcrafted silver jewellery to photography to cake! Jo raises money for a variety of stroke charities. More information on Facebook.
Saturday 5 October 7pm till late: Deddington Wine Festival ‘Cheers to Charlie’. This is our inaugural event and is inspired by and in memory of Charlie Elvin, a much-loved member of our community… and dedicated wine enthusiast. A range of over 30 wines for you to sample with wine experts on hand, delicious and well-matched quality finger food to complement, spectacular auction prizes, a fully-licensed bar, great music and good times guaranteed! Saturday 12 October 8pm till late: Deddington Players host an evening of live music featuring local bands such as The Village Beats, Whiff of Horse, BackRow and Nexus. This ‘mini festival’ will raise money for Katharine House and Breast Cancer Now. Keep an eye out for ticket details soon.
